Privacy policy

Your family's photos and stories are personal. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, how long we keep it, and how you can ask us to delete it.

Who we are

Onceling is operated by Martin Jewell in Germany. As the operator, I am the controller responsible for the personal data processed on this site. You can reach me at any time at [email protected].

What we collect

Your account details (email address, optional display name and avatar), the book details you enter (the child's first name, age, interests and the dedication), the photos you upload, the content we generate for you (story text, illustrations, audio narration), and order data such as your shipping address and order history. Payments are processed by Stripe — we never see or store your card details.

Your photos

Reference photos and generated looks are stored with your saved character so you can reuse that character in future books. They remain there until you delete the saved character. Artwork made for a book is stored with that book until the book is deleted; deleting a saved character does not remove artwork already used by a book. File removal runs in the background. Files still used by another saved item are kept with that item until it is deleted. AI providers receive photos and book details only as needed to generate illustrations, as described below. Your photos are not used to train AI models. To request deletion of all personal information associated with your account, email [email protected].

How we use your data

We use your data to create and deliver your personalised book, to fulfil print orders, to send transactional emails such as order confirmations and book-ready notifications, and to provide customer support. If you allow advertising measurement and we enable the Meta integration, we use limited event data to measure visits, completed sign-ups, and confirmed paid book purchases. We do not use your photos, book content, or account contact details to create ads.

Who we share data with

AI providers receive your photos and book details only to generate your book. Stripe processes payments. Our print partner receives the recipient name and shipping address for physical orders. Our hosting providers store data on our behalf. If you accept analytics cookies, Google (Google Analytics) and PostHog process site usage data on our behalf. Separately, if you allow advertising measurement and we enable the Meta integration, Meta may receive page-view, completed-sign-up, and confirmed-purchase events, including the purchase value and currency. Meta may also receive technical information sent by your browser, such as your IP address, device and browser details, and Meta identifiers or cookies. We do not deliberately send Meta email addresses, children's names, photos, story text, or private book URLs. We never sell personal data.

How long we keep data

Account data is kept for as long as your account exists. Reference photos and generated looks are kept with a saved character until that character is deleted. Artwork made for a book is kept with that book until the book is deleted. File removal runs in the background. Files still used by another saved item are kept with that item until it is deleted. Order records are kept for as long as the law requires. To request deletion of all personal information associated with your account, email [email protected].

Your rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, ask for a copy in a portable format, and object to or restrict certain processing. Email [email protected] and we will respond. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.

Children

Our service is intended for adults. Details about children are entered by the purchasing adult, who is responsible for having the right to share them. We only use these details to create the book.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep the site working, including your sign-in session and your language and currency preferences. With your consent, given in the cookie banner, we also use Google Analytics and PostHog to understand how people use Onceling and improve the product — these do not load or set any cookies until you accept analytics. Advertising measurement is a separate choice. If you allow it and we enable the Meta integration, a separate frame served from https://onceling-metrics.vercel.app may use Meta identifiers or cookies to measure visits, completed sign-ups, and confirmed paid book purchases; Meta JavaScript is not loaded in the main Onceling app. The integration remains off unless configured. You can change your choices at any time using "Cookie settings" in the footer.
