The Lantern You Carry

Every night before bed, the little one carries the little glass lantern from room to room with a grown-up close behind — its honey-gold glow growing softer through the kitchen, cosier on the old sofa, and sleepier with every stair — until it settles, warm and steady, right beside the pillow.
